What Fear is Stopping You? – From Having A Perfect Photoshoot
Is fear stopping you from doing things you’ve dreamed of for years? Stopping you from feeling great about yourself and celebrating who you are today? Fear that you aren’t ready, that you won’t do it right, fear that you aren’t pretty enough or don’t meet society’s definition of beautiful? Well, I’m here to let you know it’s time to put that fear aside and realize you are amazing, just the way you are!
What is fear? Well, the dictionary definition is “A distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined.” We all have fear. It’s normal, and in many cases, a healthy thing to have. Our fight or flight response to situations is a reaction to fear, and though good in cases of life or death, fear can also prevent us from doing things that take us out of our comfort zone. In most cases, fear is our way of not stepping out and taking a chance, a way to avoid something that we feel may be embarrassing or difficult.
This is when I describe fear as:
False
Evidence
Appearing
Real
The fear of not being as pretty as the women we see in magazines or in the movies. The fear of being embarrassed of our size, shape or age. The fear of not measuring up to what others think we should be. If you’ve been considering a photo session, are these fears the reason you haven’t booked yours yet?
As a professional women’s photographer, I have seen women who are successful, smart, beautiful and amazing come into the studio without ever really seeing the beauty in themselves. I believe that hearing what these women have to say in their own words is better than me trying to explain it. Their answers below express clearly how overcoming your fears can leave you with more confidence and feeling great about yourself.
I ask women a few questions at the end of their shoot. Below are some of their replies.
Q: “Tell me about your biggest fear when considering a photo-shoot. Did it come true?
A: “My fear was of not looking good –looking ugly or fat. I’m happy it did not come true! Not only did my pictures come out great but it was definitely a confidence booster!”
A: “I was nervous that my insecurities about my body would keep me from feeling completely comfortable. Instead, I was relaxed and felt beautiful!
A: “My biggest fear was probably feeling awkward or being unhappy with my body in the shots. Instead, I felt comfortable, happy and very accepting of my body.”
Q: “What advice would you give to someone considering booking a session?”
A: “Think of it as a big gift to yourself. It’s your life, your body, and every woman deserves to feel beautiful and sexy.”
A: “Don’t be nervous because it will be one of the best experiences you do for yourself.”
A: “It’s such a great thing to do for your self-confidence. The photos you get will be your memories captured of who you were at that time and that can be such a positive thing.”
I am so proud of these ladies for stepping outside of their comfort zones, braving their fears, and realizing they are beautiful, unique, women!
